Frequently Asked Questions
♡ Do you have any puppies available?
Current available puppies will be posted here.
♡ What kind of puppies do you offer?
We only produce Bernedoodles (medium & mini).
Medium avg. 45-55lbs
Mini avg. 30-45lb
♡ What kind of dog is a Bernedoodle?
Bernedoodles are a cross between Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. They make excellent companions. Bernedoodles have better a better health forecast than their purebred ancestors.
We love how adaptable and intelligent they are. A Bernedoodle will be a couch potato with you today, and be up for a 10 mile hike tomorrow. They just want to be around you! They also make great service dogs (as many of our puppies have grown up to become).
♡ What are their needs?
-Like any dog, training is required if you want an obedient, well-rounded pup. We recommend reaching out to a trainer once your puppy has completed vaccines.
-Obedience and behavioral training classes can give you lots of insight on how to act with your dog. You are the pack leader - maintaining that role is vital for a good relationship with the dog.
-All dogs require physical and mental stimulation to stay emotionally regulated. This includes things like walks, chews/toys, enrichment toys like snuffle mats and puzzles, training sessions (learning new commands, doing tricks for treats), supervised play with other dogs, etc.
-While Bernedoodles are low-maintenance, they require SOME form of stimulation!
-Grooming/haircut is also needed for furnished puppies periodically.
♡ What about crate training?
Crate training is imperative. Start from day 1 to make your life easier. It gives your dog a safe place in the home and helps them self regulate and learn to settle. It's also vital for potty training - spending time in the crate helps build the muscles that hold their poo/pee. It also affirms the pack leader mentality and prevents separation anxiety. A dog without a crate is like a teenager without a bedroom! Everyone needs somewhere to decompress.
While they are cuddly and cute, they are still an animal so it's important to maintain boundaries. I recommend feeding meals in the crate, and giving chews/high value treats in the crate so build positive reinforcement.
♡ Will my Bernedoodle protect me?
We advocate this breed for single people living alone, especially women! Families with children and other vulnerable folks, too. They are as cuddly and gentle as they look, but have no problem protecting you/their home if necessary! They are highly intelligent, emotionally attuned and will easily pickup on a negative presence.
♡ Are they high maintenance?
Bernedoodles need grooming every 5-12 weeks depending on coat length. You should brush them out fully at least twice a week.
If you like the fluffy doodle look, the coat maintenance will be more demanding.
Certain generations and coat patterns have a more manageable coat than others. Ask us for more info about which generation is best for you.
♡ Do you have a waitlist?
Yes. Reservations for upcoming litters, if there are any, will be posted here.
♡ What about pricing?
Prices range from $3500-$4700. This is dependent on markings/rarity/size, and whether or not you opt for a Premium Pick.
♡ What is Premium Pick?
Some families opt for a Premium Pick. This "pick of the litter" option allows you to choose a puppy before Open Adoption begins. Premium Picks must be chosen by 4 weeks old. Additional fee applies, as follows..
1st pick: +1200
2nd pick: +1100
3rd pick: +1000
*** Premium Pick fees are SEPARATE from total cost of puppy! ***
Payment accepted through Paypal. Receipt sent via email.
Base price is 3500. Premium Pick deposits are additional to the base price.
This isn't offered for every litter. Please inquire for current info.
♡ Can I place a deposit before puppies are born?
Yes. Visit the Place a Deposit page to view current waitlists for upcoming litters. Please note, we rely on mother nature... all estimated dates are subject to change!
♡ How do I know your dogs are healthy? Are they genetically tested?
Yes, all dogs within the breeding program get a full genetic panel, which detects 260+ health/genetic risks. This ensures a happy and healthy life for your puppy. We use Embark genetic testing services. Adults also get a physical clearing by the vet prior to breeding.
My dogs are also fed an exceptional diet. Human grade food (from the grocery store) including meat and vegetables, daily vitamins and oils, nutritional paste, and probiotics, as well as high quality kibble.
♡ What does 'ethical breeder' mean?
- Our moms have no more than 2 litters per year, and retire around 4-5 years old. Overbreeding can be dangerous, even deadly.
- Our dogs are treated as part of the family and live in our home, not in a barn, facility, or cage. They are normal house pets when not whelping.
- We pour our heart and soul into puppy development. We're with them most of the day, and run each puppy through the nationally recognized ENS "puppy culture" regimen; prioritizing desensitization and socialization starting at just 2 days old.
- We feed human-grade whole foods and supplements & high quality kibble. Frequent treats and cuddles, and spa days too!
♡ What is Breeder Selection?
Breeder's selection means we have chosen a puppy to stay with us and become part of the Binghamton Bernedoodles program. We reserve this right with any puppy of any litter before public adoption takes place.
♡ Can I come visit?
To protect our dogs and our home, we only allow in-person visits (on Family Visit Day) to folks who have placed a deposit. Visit Day occurs after puppies are 6 weeks old and get their first shots. (Safety first!) We'll happily answer any questions/send photos and videos before then!
♡ How much is a deposit?
-Premium Pick deposits are listed above.
$1200, $1100 & $1000 (1st, 2nd, 3rd pick).
-A regular deposit is $500.
♡ If I place a deposit and change my mind, can I get a refund?
Deposits are non-refundable. We try our best to find each pup it's fur-ever home! Please don't make this decision lightly. A dog is a 10+ year commitment that will change your life, not a toy or conversation piece!
♡ What is Family Visit Day?
After placing a deposit, you will schedule a 1 hour time slot on Family Visit Day (after 6 wks. old & first vaccines) to come to our home and meet your puppy!
-At the conclusion of the visit, 50% of your remaining balance is due. Cash preferred, venmo, paypal, zelle or cashapp accepted with a service fee. This payment is non-refundable, and acts as a confirmation that you'll be purchasing your selected puppy.
-The final 50% remaining payment is due on Pick Up day. Cash only.
-For families that can’t come in person, video calls are available.
♡ When do I take my puppy home?
Puppies go home at around 8 weeks old. By this time, they're completely weaned to puppy food, and have their necessary shots/deworming.
♡ Do you offer delivery?
Delivery is available through us (by vehicle) within 1 hr distance from our home in Binghamton NY at $3.00/mi. We do not ship puppies. Strongly prefer in-home pickup as we usually have other pups to tend to here.
♡ Can you hold my puppy longer than 8 weeks?
Life happens. If you can't pick up your puppy on pick up day, we can board them until you're ready. Boarding is $40/day.
***30 day max boarding..it's important for the puppy to bond with their new family during that young age!
♡ Will my puppy be potty trained?
No puppy was ever potty trained by 8 weeks old. However, we have a unique potty-training process to facilitate a quick transition once your puppy comes home..
-At 2 weeks old, once eyes are fully open, we begin wee-pad training.
-After the puppies grasp this concept, we introduce a wee-pad tray with a grate on top.
-Once they've adjusted to that, we add pine wood pellets to the trays. These pellets smell strongly of wood, and create the association to potty on organic material (like outside).
-You will receive a bag of these wood pellets in your care package. Sprinkle outside where you want the puppy to potty and voila! They already know what to do. When wet, the pellets turn to sawdust and are biodegradable.
-We also recommend purchasing a wee-pad tray. Find it in our Puppy Supplies list. You'd put this next to the door for outside. This way, when an accident inevitably happens, at least your puppy knows they can go there, and not on the floor.
-After a while, you'll move the tray outside. This will further enforce the transition.
-I also recommend crate training at least until 1 year old. When your pup comes out of the crate (after naps, in the morning, etc.) pick them up & immediately go outside. Praise them for going potty outside - verbally and with treats.
♡ Is our puppy UTD on shots?
All puppies receive a 6-in-1 DHPP puppy vaccine at 6 weeks old. They also are de-wormed at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks.
**They will need to see a veterinarian periodically after adoption for boosters/physical etc.
♡ What's in the Pickup Day care package?
We include a generous care package with each puppy! Inside you'll find food, mom-scented blankets, toys, a handmade framed ink print of your puppy's paw, wood pellets to help with potty training, training devices, vet records, a health guarantee and buyer agreement.
